Annapolis now "Aquathon"

For those who haven't heard yet, the organizers of the Annapolis Tri couldn't get the necessary permits for the bike portion of the race. They are researching alternative routes but they haven't been able to come to a solution which would address all of the County's concerns. They are exploring the possibility of an Aquathon (swim/run) on the same day. The event would be the same distances for both the swim and run as the current triathlon, and obviously wouldn't include the bike portion.

So if you're looking to get Annapolis in, there might be some openings since people like myself decided to get the full refund and not participate. They are allowing the current registration from the tri to be rolled into the Aquathon, and the residual amount of the registration can either be made as a tax deductible donation to one of the several local charities they are planning to work with, or can be refunded in full in the form of a check.

It sucks for everyone who registered, but I think many saw that coming for a while. It just never seemed that they were really making progress. Additionally, from what I understand last year they burned a few bridges by not fully disclosing what they were doing to the community, leaving local businesses, churches, etc, pretty PO'd. That did not help their cause in obtaining permits this year.

Dean suggested the Lancaster YMCA tri - which is the Saturday of that weekend.

I'm considering it, but not sure yet.

I finally signed up for Lancaster today, the canceling of Annapolis was the push I needed. I have heard good things about it from Dean, Ryan, and Emily so I think it will be fun, hilly, but fun. All of you ex-Annapolis people should sign up, we would have good representation for our little tri club!

I have always signed up for Lancaster on race morning, but now I feel like with all these people in the potential mix, I may sign up earlier just to be safe. Thanks Ayesha for making me have to do this....
